Footwear Infrastructure
Systems cc (FIS) is a BEE
company established in
accordance with the
DTI's
footwear sector development
strategy, key sector 1, of 2007.
The purpose of FIS is to
stimulate the local industry
through its key services to
create a
stronger manufacturing
base which can effectively
compete with imports and develop
products
and supply for export.
Through its system FIS aims to
create over 2000 direct jobs in
the next three years establish
over 90 empowered entrepreneurs
in a network of franchise
footwear factories and retail
outlets.
In ten years, with the
appropriate support, FIS intends
to increase this figure to a
potential 80 000
direct and
indirect jobs with thousands of
empowered entrepreneurs, thereby
re-capturing the ZAR
8
Billion industry to the hands of
South Africans.
FIS does not
intend to hamper the existing
manufacturers, and component
suppliers in any way,
but rather
seek to support and grow them
wherever possible.
TRAINING:
Through the Footwear Design
and Technology School of South
Africa entrepreneurs and their
staff
are put through a three
month course in the art of
manufacturing footwear by hand.
The entrepreneurs also receive
training in managerial skills
and sales.
FRANCHISE MANUFACTURING
CONCERNS:
Entrepreneurs are
established in their own
manufacturing concerns under a
franchise concept,
tooled up to
manufacture any of the products
supplied to them by the design
studio.
These concerns can be
established in CBD's or in the
remotest of areas as the
entrepreneur wishes.
Existing
manufacturers that are
struggling are invited to
also fall in under our franchise
infrastructure
and benefit from
our support.
RETAIL AND MARKETING:
Retail outlets are
established as part of the
manufacturing concern. These
outlets maximises profit
margins
for the concerns and enable them
to survive solely by themselves
until their quality and
production is adequately
established to supply other
retail concerns sourced by FIS
for them.
All marketing is done
by FIS under the group
banner. The main focus of such
marketing is on "made
in South
Africa", Quality, job creation,
and comfort.
The first Footwear Fashion
show will be taking place on 26
November 2009, exhibiting over
200 of the
designers creative
styles. This show will be
exhibited all around the country
from 2010, and will attract
more
attention than the major
clothing shows. We will be
focussing on creating an
identifiable
South African touch
to footwear fashion.
DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT:
Through its state of the
art CAD design facility and
think tank of designers,
developers and model makers,
FIS
will continually develop
hundreds of leading edge and
innovative products which can be
manufactured
by its franchise
factories or be bought by other
manufacturers. A continual
development process of Soles,
lasts, trims and materials will
take place as well.
COMPONENT SUPPLY:
FIS buys in all
components in bulk from various
suppliers. There is also an
assertive effort to bring more
suppliers in, as well as
establish suppliers, to cater
for the footwear industry. FIS
warehouses the
components and
materials and distributes to the
factories as needed on a JIT
system. All materials are
cut
and distributed, ready to
assemble, leaving the
manufacturer to concentrate on
his production.
FIS invites all interested
parties wishing to purchase a
franchise, or to supply FIS with
components to submit an enquiry
form and we will forward you the
necessary information:
